“Maker” kelime olarak Make (yapma) fiilinden türetilmiştir, kısaca anlatmak gerekirse kendisi bir şeyler ortaya koyan, üreten kimseye “Maker” denir. Kişinin kendi çabalarıyla bir şeyler yapma işi, yabancı dilde DIY (do it yourself – kendin yap) kavramı ile bir kültür haline gelerek, Maker Hareketi (Maker Movement) ile anılmaya başlamıştır.
